CLASSES & EVENTS

The Rutherford County Visual Artist Guild hosts several events throughout the year and offers classes for both adults and kids to assist developing their skills and exploring new mediums.

You do not have to be a member of the Guild to take a class or participate in an event. We are a county wide Guild and are open to everyone in the community.

All classes and workshops are held at The VAC, 160 N. Main Street, Rutherfordton, North Carolina. Often class size is limited and no registrations are held until the class fee has been paid. You can pay in person or mail a check to The VAC at PO Box 2015, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.

If you are interested in taking a particular class and don't see it listed, email us and let us know. We can reach out to our artists and try to offer it.

Small Loom & Fiber

 

 

When:  Saturday January 4th 10:30-1:30

Cost:  $15 plus $7 supplies fee

This class will introduce students to weaving on various small looms.  General concepts and lots of weaving practice will be included. 

Take-home is 2 small looms with projects started.  There will also be a round-robin session trying various looms.

Where:   Rutherford County Visual Arts Center, 160 North Main Street, Rutherfordton, NC.

To Participate:  You will need to register and pay for class at the VAC prior to the class date.

The beginner quilting  start-up class will set you on your way to learning the basics of quilting. The goal is to send you home with your very first quilted item - a beautiful 12" x 28" table runner.  You will also receive printed instructions to take home with you. 

 

The cost is $30.00 per class plus a $15.00 supplies fee paid to the class  instructor.  This will be an ongoing class held the 3rd Saturday of every month beginning January 18, 2020.  

Time:  12 pm to 5 pm

 

Items required for the class: 

Bring your own sewing machine, sewing needles, scissors, safety pins, straight pins and sewing machine threads. 

 

Supplies provided: 

Multiple precut fabrics will be available for your choice of color, along with quilt batting, muslin backing, and binding fabric.

The 5 hour class will give you the information and time to piece your quilt top together  and assemble the quilt top to the  batting and muslin backing.  You will learn simple straight stitch machine quilting along with how to bind the edges.

Beginner Quilting Class

Bob Ross Painting Workshop

When: Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 10:00 to 1:00

(you will have plenty of time to finish your masterpiece)

This is an ongoing class on the 2nd Saturday of every month taught by Pat Hitchcock who is a certified Bob Ross painting instructor.

Price: $ 20.00 per class and you bring your own supplies.

Supply List:

- Bob Ross Master Kit

(can be purchased at Qualityart.biz the kit includes brushes and paints)
- 12" x 16" Canvas
- Small Easel

Each week our yarn lovers meet up  to socialize, get tips and work on projects.

 

Fridays from 10:00 am to Noon

 

$5/session, FREE for Guild members.

 

Payment taken upon arrival. No pre-registration required.

Yarn Lovers Studio

A FREE Online Course that takes you though art movements beginning with the Stone Age all the way through Contemporary art.

Participants can read the history of each movement, what influenced the artists and even find out more about selected artists or artworks.

Once you complete the class you can order a certificate of completion to proudly brag about to others that your are an official art history buff!

 

The online course will continue to grow and expand so check back often for new features and updates.

Save the Dates

COTA 2020- The Celebration of the Arts 2020, a juried art show, date is September 11-16, 2020 at The Foundation on the Isothermal Community College campus in Spindale, NC.

Set up date will be September 10, 2020 and pick up date September 16, 2010. The show is the project of the Rutherford County Visual Artists Guild. Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded. to show entries with a special displays of Junior Artists and ICC students. 

Artist Applications will be available June 1, 2020. Application deadline August 15, 2020.
